It was yesterday reported that the President changed his mind at the last minute to ‘Swap the girls’ after warnings from Western countries at the security summit in Paris. Apparently the Nigerian Journalist, Ahmad Salika who serves as an intermediary is the only Nigerian Journalist with access to Boko Haram was flown into the country some weeks back by the Nigerian government to facilitate negotiations between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram. Ahmad Salkida who was reported to have told President Goodluck Jonathan that the use of force will not bring back the abducted girls alive from the Insurgent’s den obtained the video as a way of proving to Mr Jonathan’s office that he had authentic lines of communication to Boko Haram’s leaders. Salkida who left the country two years ago to Dubai for fear of his live after being arrested in the past and associated with the sects as a result of his closeness to them, upon his return back to the country was said to have headed up into the remote bushland areas where the group operate, meeting a senior assistant of Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau. The Federal government still in doubt of Salkida asked for a prove, a source said: “The government said to the intermediary to prove himself to show whether he was capable of brokering a deal or not, and insisted that he should obtain proof of life of the hostages,” the source said. “So during his talks with the insurgents, he obtained a DVD which had clips of girls being interviewed by members of the group, in which they asked President Jonathan to do a prisoner swap to get them freed. “That DVD was shown to the government, and a deal was arranged so that the girls would have been released a week ago on Monday, but at last minute the government backed out.” The Nigerian government aside pressure from Western countries at the security summit in Paris not to accept the Boko haram terrorists demand to ‘Sap the girls’, a source said that they appear to be afraid that “if they do a prisoner swap, they will lose the support of the West.” The source further said, the negotiations had now “crashed”, with Mr Salkida returning to Dubai while the DVD remains in the possession of the Nigerian government and has not been released publicly. Boko Haram Kills 24 Soldiers, 21 Policemen, Seizes Tank

<div dir="ltr">No fewer than 45 Nigerian security personnel were allegedly killed members of the outlawed Islamist sect, Boko Haram laid siege on the town of Buni Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. <div style="float:right;margin:5px 0px 5px 5px"> </div> According to reports, Boko Haram gunmen on trucks and motorcycles stormed the town late on Monday. A source with Nigeria’s Joint Task Force told the Hausa Service of VOA that 24 soldiers and 21 police officers were confirmed dead following the attack. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gunmen took away an armored tank and many vehicles. A Hausa Service reporter who in Nigeria’s north-east also said militants were attacking motorists on highways leading in and out of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. Drivers said snipers wait in trees to fire at passing cars, which are then attacked by gunmen hiding in bushes by the side of the road. The federal government has claimed it was winning the war against terrorism despite increasing attacks, which now seem to be spreading to the country’s north central, with attacks on Jos, Plateau State last week. The head of the Nigerian military, Chief of Defense Staff Air Marshal Alex Badeh, Monday said the military knew the location of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls. Badeh said the military would not disclose further details, but assured the world that “we know what we are doing”, and will bring the girls back safely. Boko Haram insurgency, which started in 2009 has led to the death of thousands. </div>

A resident told Vanguard that the attackers invaded the village yesterday on motorcycles but met some women. According to the resident, “they wanted to hit the women with sticks but when they raised the sticks, their hands refused to descend. “Three of the insurgents fled, but seven were not lucky as the women alerted the people,” and the vigilante group in the community rushed to the scene, disarmed the seven insurgents, who were later lynched. Attagara, a border community with Cameroon is about 10 kilometres South-East of Pulka District in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state and about 130 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital. Also, scores of gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram were killed yesterday through the combined efforts of members of the vigilante youths, otherwise known as Civilian JTF, and the military in Kawuri village, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. 20-year-old Mallam Mamman Yakubu, a vigilante youth that participated in repelling the insurgents, said: “We were able to kill many of the terrorists who invaded our community yesterday night.” On whether arrests were made, Yakubu said they were not interested in any arrests because Boko Haram members hardly reveal any secret when arrested. A top security source, who confirmed the incident, told Vanguard that three dead bodies of the terrorists were recovered yesterday morning in Kawuri, adding that more of the terrorists were killed in a nearby bush of Kawuri when they attempted to flee to the Sambisa Forest.
