Renowned Author, Poet Maya Angelou Dies At 86

She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace,”</em>   her family said in a statement on Angelou’s Facebook. They said she   passed away quietly at home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.</p>  <p>Angelou had been honored with more than 50 awards, including the US   highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for her   collected works of poetry, fiction and nonfiction, most notably her   groundbreaking memoir, <em>I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings</em>, which made history as one of the first nonfiction best-sellers by an African-American woman.</p>  <p>Health problems made Angelou recently cancel an appearance at the   2014 MLB Beacon Award Luncheon, where she was to be honored with the   Beacon of Life Award.</p>  <table class="" style="margin-right:auto;width:498px;height:15px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="510">  <tbody>  <tr>  <td><br></td>  </tr>  <tr>  <td><br></td>  </tr>  </tbody>  </table>  <p>Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. As a   child she was traveling between her hometown and Stamps, Arizona, where   she witnessed racial segregation first-hand. This experience would later   inform some of the more searing chapters of her books.</p>  <p>The famous poet got into writing after a childhood tragedy. When she   was 7, her mother’s boyfriend defiled her. He was later beaten to death   by a mob after she testified against him.</p>  <p><em>“I thought my voice had killed him, so it was better not to speak – so I simply stopped speaking,”</em> she said. She remained mute for five years, but read voraciously.</p>  <p>Angelou later became a singer, a dancer, cocktail waitress, prostitute and an actress before beginning her writing career.</p>  <p>Her career spanned the globe, including stints as an editor in Egypt a   and a music and drama school teacher in Ghana. Through her writing and   interviews, her strength and eloquence as a role model for those seeking   to overcome inequality and injustice won her many admirers.</p>  <p>Angelou was also a prominent civil rights activist and a friend of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.</p>  <p>Her poetry collections included Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water   ‘fore I Diiie (1971), And Still I Rise (1978), Now Sheba Sings the Song   (1987) and I Shall Not Be Moved (1990).</p>  <p>In her last tweet dated May 23, 2014, Angelou wrote:</p>  <p><a href="http://informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Capture154.jpg"><img alt="Capture" class="" height="172" src="http://informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Capture154.jpg" width="449"></a></p></div>

<div dir="ltr"><p>Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi says he is lucky to be alive   after escaping death by the whiskers following bomb blasts in Jos,   Plateau State last week.</p>     <div style="float:right;margin:5px 0px 5px 5px">      </div>  <p>“I am very, very lucky, just by the grace of God,” the footballer who   plies his trade at Italian Serie A side, Lazio told BBC Sport.</p>  <p>One of the Jos blasts, which occurred at a crowded bus terminal and market killed at least 118 people.</p>  <p>The 21-year-old, who was born in Jos, had just left the popular Jos Main Market when the first bomb went off on Tuesday.</p>  <p>“It was just like an ordinary day. Happy faces and friendly warmth that makes you feel happy to be back home.</p>  <p>“We had gone to the railway market to get something. I think it was   15 minutes later when we heard the loud blast from the place. And   suddenly, people were just running.</p>  <p>“There was chaos and pandemonium. There was smoke, I was confused,   lost and just wondered what had happened. I had no idea what was going   on and it was scary.</p>  <p>“All my life I have never heard a bang or boom like that,” Onazi said.</p>  <p>The second blast killed some of the rescue workers who had rushed to the scene, which was obscured by billows of black smoke.</p>  <p>Onazi, who is now with the Super Eagles squad in London as they   prepare for today’s friendly against Scotland says he has been   struggling to erase the memories of that dark day, stressing that the   unrest back home has made it difficult to focus on football.</p>  <p>“Some will say I should be happy to be alive but I just feel   concerned about the security challenges in Jos and Nigeria as a   country,” he said.</p>  <p>“I was born and bred in a peaceful Jos. I may be fortunate enough to   live outside the place right now, but I still have my family and friends   who live in the city.</p>  <p>“I always get worried when there are reports of terrible incidents   there on a regular basis. It’s sad and depressing to live with this.</p>  <p>“Personally, I think there is a need for a holistic approach to solving this problem once and for all.</p>  <p>“Innocent people are dying and the government seriously needs to step up security across the country.”</p>  <p>Onazi is preparing for his first World Cup with the Super Eagles   after helping the Nigerian National team win the 2014 African Cup of   Nations.</p></div>

<div dir="ltr"><p><strong style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">A new report has emerged about the <span style="text-decoration:underline">Chibok girls abducted in Borno state on April 14</span>,   that President Goodluck Jonathan received a video where the schoolgirls   were seen pleading for him to spare their lives, according to UK   Telegraph.<span id="bufferBlock"></span></strong></p><strong style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">     <div style="float:right;margin:5px 0px 5px 5px">      </div>  </strong><p><strong style="color:rgb(34,34,34)"></strong></p>  <p><a href="http://www.informationng.com/2014/05/president-jonathan-receives-new-video-showing-abducted-chibok-girls-pleading-for-their-lives.html/capture-1330" rel="attachment wp-att-214611"><img alt="Capture" class="" height="259" src="http://informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Capture26.png" width="478"></a></p>    <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">The Boko Haram sects are said to have sent the   video to the President by an  intermediary, a Nigerian Journalist,   Ahmad Salika in a bid to change the mind of Jonathan concerning his   rejection of the original deal to swap the school girls for Boko haram   prisoners.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)"><span style="text-decoration:underline">It   was yesterday reported that the President changed his mind at the last   minute to ‘Swap the girls’ after warnings from Western countries at the   security summit in Paris</span>.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">Apparently the <span style="text-decoration:underline">Nigerian Journalist, Ahmad Salika who serves as an intermediary is the only Nigerian Journalist with access to Boko Haram</span> was   flown into the country some weeks back by the Nigerian government to   facilitate negotiations between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)"><span style="text-decoration:underline">Ahmad   Salkida who was reported to have told President Goodluck Jonathan that   the use of force will not bring back the abducted girls alive from the   Insurgent’s den</span> obtained the video as a way of proving to Mr   Jonathan’s office that he had authentic lines of communication to Boko   Haram’s leaders.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">Salkida who left the country two years ago to   Dubai for fear of his live after being arrested in the past and   associated with the sects as a result of his closeness to them, upon his   return back to the country was said to have headed up into the remote   bushland areas where the group operate, meeting a senior assistant of   Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">The Federal government still in doubt of Salkida asked for a prove, a source said:</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">“The government said to the intermediary to   prove himself to show whether he was capable of brokering a deal or not,   and insisted that he should obtain proof of life of the hostages,” the   source said. “So during his talks with the insurgents, he obtained a DVD   which had clips of girls being interviewed by members of the group, in   which they asked President Jonathan to do a prisoner swap to get them   freed.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">“That DVD was shown to the government, and a   deal was arranged so that the girls would have been released a week ago   on Monday, but at last minute the government backed out.”</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">The Nigerian government aside pressure from   Western countries at the security summit in Paris not to accept the Boko   haram terrorists demand to ‘Sap the girls’, a source said that they   appear to be afraid that “if they do a prisoner swap, they will lose the   support of the West.”</p>  <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">The source further said, the negotiations had   now “crashed”, with Mr Salkida returning to Dubai while the DVD remains   in the possession of the Nigerian government and has not been released   publicly.<span id="bufferBlock"></span></p>    <p style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">Source: Telegraph</p></div>

Boko Haram Kills 24 Soldiers, 21 Policemen, Seizes Tank

<div dir="ltr"><p>No fewer than 45 Nigerian security personnel were allegedly killed   members of the outlawed Islamist sect, Boko Haram laid siege on the town   of Buni Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe   State.</p>     <div style="float:right;margin:5px 0px 5px 5px">      </div>  <p>According to reports, Boko Haram gunmen on trucks and motorcycles stormed the town late on Monday.</p>  <p>A source with Nigeria’s Joint Task Force told the Hausa Service of   VOA that 24 soldiers and 21 police officers were confirmed dead   following the attack. </p>  <p>The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gunmen took away an armored tank and many vehicles.</p>  <p>A Hausa Service reporter who in Nigeria’s north-east also said   militants were attacking motorists on highways leading in and out of   Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.</p>  <p>Drivers said snipers wait in trees to fire at passing cars, which are   then attacked by gunmen hiding in bushes by the side of the road.</p>  <p>The federal government has claimed it was winning the war against   terrorism despite increasing attacks, which now seem to be spreading to   the country’s north central, with attacks on Jos, Plateau State last   week.</p>  <p>The head of the Nigerian military, Chief of Defense Staff Air Marshal   Alex Badeh, Monday said the military knew the location of the abducted   Chibok schoolgirls.</p>  <p>Badeh said the military would not disclose further details, but   assured the world that “we know what we are doing”, and will bring the   girls back safely.</p>  <p>Boko Haram insurgency, which started in 2009 has led to the death of thousands. </p></div>

Women Demobilize Boko Haram Insurgents In Borno

<div dir="ltr"><span></span>      <div class="">  <p><a href="http://informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/bornoimages1.jpg"><img alt="" class="" height="152" src="http://informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/bornoimages1.jpg" title="bornoimages1.jpg" width="171"></a></p>       <div style="float:right;margin:5px 0px 5px 5px">      </div>  <p>Residents of Attagara and Kawuri villages in Gwoza and Bama local   government areas of Borno State, respectively, repelled attacks on their   community by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.</p>  <p>A resident told Vanguard that the attackers invaded the village yesterday on motorcycles but met some women.</p>  <p>According to the resident, “they wanted to hit the women with sticks   but when they raised the sticks, their hands refused to descend.</p>  <p>“Three of the insurgents fled, but seven were not lucky as the women   alerted the people,” and the vigilante group in the community rushed to   the scene, disarmed the seven insurgents, who were later lynched.</p>  <p>Attagara, a border community with Cameroon is about 10 kilometres   South-East of Pulka District in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state   and about 130 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.</p>  <p>Also, scores of gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram were   killed yesterday through the combined efforts of members of the   vigilante youths, otherwise known as Civilian JTF, and the military in   Kawuri village, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.</p>  <p>20-year-old Mallam Mamman Yakubu, a vigilante youth that participated   in repelling the insurgents, said: “We were able to kill many of the   terrorists who invaded our community yesterday night.”</p>  <p>On whether arrests were made, Yakubu said they were not interested in   any arrests because Boko Haram members hardly reveal any secret when   arrested.</p>  <p>A top security source, who confirmed the incident, told Vanguard that   three dead bodies of the terrorists were recovered yesterday morning in   Kawuri, adding that more of the terrorists were killed in a nearby bush   of Kawuri when they attempted to flee to the Sambisa Forest. Chris Oyakhilome, founder of the Christ Embassy Church.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(85,85,85)">Going through the posts and comments on the   page, it’s obvious that there is panic amongst members of the church in   Nigeria and abroad.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(85,85,85)">This is coming after a report earlier this year that the pastor relocated to South Africa, living separately from his wife.</p>  <p style="color:rgb(85,85,85)">According to the post on the Facebook page: <em style="font-weight:inherit">“Dear   brothers and sisters, please the object of this forum is very clear.
