Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has signed a pre-contract with Swedish top flight club Kalmar FF, according to the teenage player’s agent.
Awoniyi, who stood in for the injured Isaac Success in the latter part of the Golden Eaglets’ victorious campaign at the 2013 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirate (UAE), will sign a professional deal with Kalmar next year- at which point he would have turned 18.
“Taiwo has taken his first big step towards playing in Europe with this agreement, Goke Oshatoba, Awoniyi’s agent told AfricanFootball.com. “This has always been his dream.”
Kalmar are fourth on the Swedish league standings with nine points from a possible 15, four points behind leaders Malmo.
Awoniyi contributed four goals for the Eaglets, on their track to clinching a record fourth Fifa World Cup title.
The Ilorin-born footballer is currently in camp with the Nigeria Under-20 side, preparing for next month’s 2015 African Youth Championship (AYC) qualifier against the winner of the match between Tanzania and Kenya.
